Propulsion gearbox
The gearbox is a key element of the propulsion system, enabling the main engine and the propeller to operate at optimum speeds. The propulsion gearbox comes in different executions, set ups and other functions such as a propeller thrust bearing, multiple-disc clutches, power take-off for shaft generators and power take-in for electric motors can also be incorporated in the gear.
Horizontal or vertical offset, single engine or twin engine with single output with or without built-in multiple disk clutch, many varieties are possible with our custom built gearbox designs.
Also called “Hybrid system” is available either by adding an electric motor or generator to the mechanical power transmission. Or even by replacing the common diesel engine for smaller electric motors.
