During the regular maintenance of these bascule bridges, it was discovered that the brakes had to be renewed. Small leakages, brake shoes in bad condition and a too low braking torque indicated that replacement was necessary.
However, closing a busy waterway causes problems. Boone was therefore asked to renew the brakes including the foundation of both bridges during the weekend. Correct coordination and good preparation were therefore crucial to ensure that the conversion time was not exceeded.
Because of a perfect organization, the four installations could be adjusted without any problems. Shipping traffic could already be resumed during the afternoon.
