Disassembly and inspection sliding bearings

On board this naval frigate there are 2 Schelde Gears propulsion gearboxes. These gearboxes are equipped with V-gearing and can be driven by a diesel engine or a RollsRoyce gas turbine.

A so-called SSS clutch (synchronous self-shifting clutch) is placed on the input shaft, which is driven by the gas turbine. A hydraulic multi-plate clutch is mounted on the input shaft, which is driven by the diesel engine. This prevents the diesel engine and gas turbine from counteracting each other.

During the voyage, the crew of this naval frigate received a 'high temperature alarm' several times from the sensors on the sliding bearings.

To prevent damage to the very complicated gearboxes, it was decided to completely disassemble both gearboxes and to inspect all white metal sliding bearings and replace them if necessary.

Boone cooperated and completed this job quickly, to the full satisfaction of the customer.
